Greetings all! My apologies for another belated newsletter. We’re in between Epiphany and Ash Wednesday, which means it’s the feast of the American gridiron. I hope you’re celebrating with friends and family! By way of reminder, what follows is a rundown of my work over the last month and a preview of what’s to come. Let’s get to it. News Nothing public or earth-shaking, but some happy news is that I have officially drafted the manuscript for my next book, Technology: For the Care of Souls, an entry in the Lexham Ministry Guides. It’s the roughest first draft of a book I’ve ever written, and it’s far too long, but it feels good to have words on the page; now to revise and cut, cut, cut. Writing Three essays published. First, an essay in Mere Orthodoxy on Michel Houellebecq’s Submission, Western decadence, religion, gender, pro-natalism, P. D. James’s Children of Men, and more: Second, a fun advice-y piece for parents in Front Porch Republic: Third, a review of Wesley Hill’s new book on the resurrection in Christianity Today: Appearances None in the past month, but in the next two weeks I’ll be traveling to Gainesville, Florida, and Spokane, Washington, for a series of talks, lectures, and other public events. Blog Only a single blog post not linking to another piece online; can you tell I’ve been furiously drafting a 60,000-word manuscript? I did write a coy little piece called “Read Together or Die Alone” interrogating Alexander Campbell’s hermeneutical principle, i.e., to read the Scriptures as though no one had read them before. Links Would you believe that, in the last five weeks, I’ve either been writing on my laptop or reading physical books with little in between? That is, besides the Luka trade. Then it’s all hands on deck. Forthcoming This Tuesday expect a CT review of Ross Douthat’ new book on religious belief. Nothing else imminent, so far as I’m aware. Some essays in the hopper, due later this spring: on conspiracy theories; on the alien phenomenon; on autodidacticism; on the sacrament of baptism; on Protestantism; and more.
