Greetings all! Another month, another delayed newsletter. I expect this to continue happening through the end of year, which will mean eleven total emails over twelve months. Oh well. Below you’ll find all the news and links that are fit to print. News After a very busy May and early June, the summer has transitioned to vacation and family time. The sabbatical is finally at an end: I’ll return to the classroom at ACU exactly six weeks from today. Three of those I’ll be out of the office, and the other three will be spent prepping for the semester and finalizing the tech manuscript. Farewell, sixteen months of the full-time writer’s life! With the fourth and penultimate revision of the tech book, I found at last a version of it that I’m happy with. I’m sitting on it for a month then doing final changes in August before submitting it by month’s end. That will commence further editorial feedback and revisions, but it’ll nonetheless be a load off my back. Speaking of books: On Amazon, Letters to a Future Saint is $17.88 and The Church is $7.81. That’s two books for less than $25. What are you waiting for? Writing Three new pieces: The latter two are in the latest issues of those respective magazines; the one on aliens is paywalled for the time being, but the review of Ryan Burge’s new book is not. Appearances No lectures and just one podcast: I think this is my favorite of the Mere Fi 2.0 pods I’ve been on so far. Until this coming Wednesday, which is on AI, and thus might overtake this one. Blog On July 3I wrote a brief piece about what I call “evangelical gentrification.” More on the micro blog, including some commentary on recent films as well as a plethora of links. Links Some odds and ends: Forthcoming Expect two columns in the next month in CT, one on the Law of Moses and gentiles and the other a review of Alec Ryrie’s new book on “the age of Hitler.” Expect, too, a review of Jerome Copulsky’s American Heretics in the Los Angeles Review of Books on August 1. My review of Phil Christman’s new book on why Christians should be leftists should be in the October issue of First Things; online around mid-September, I’d guess. Later this fall and winter, expect essays and reviews in Commonweal, The Heythrop Journal, Pro Ecclesia, Modern Theology, Arc, and the Chronicle of Higher Education.
